2019 was a great year for new music, don't you think? Here are a few songs that stuck out to us.
"Teeth" by 5 Seconds of Summer: On May 23, 2019, 5 Seconds of Summer dropped their new single “Easier,” which was soon followed by another new song on August 23rd. “Teeth,” the latest from the group, was featured on the Netflix original series, 13 Reasons Why. Both of these singles carry a completely different sound than their last album, Youngblood from 2018. “Teeth” has definitely been on repeat for me this past month.
"Nice to Meet Ya" by Niall Horan: Niall’s newest song was released October 4th, 2019. Niall took a different route with “Nice to Meet Ya.” it almost gives off a harder rock influenced tone, sounding a bit edgier than his other songs like “This Town” and “Slow Hands.”
"Cheating On You" by Charlie Puth: Charlie Puth’s new song, released on October 1st of this year, reflects a feeling that he claims he’s never had. A feeling where you can’t move on from a past relationship because no matter what you’re still in love with that person. Charlie blends his voice with another flawless beat to create this catchy tune.
"Forgive" by Gnash: Gnash released a new song called “Forgive” on October 2nd of this year, and we are LOVING it. His voice blends so beautifully with the melody. This song is the type of song that is all about the pain one feels when going through a heartbreak, yet they are still able to forgive the person who hurt them. You can hear a bit of Sierra Deaton, from the previous X-Factor duo Alex and Sierra, in the background. Luke Hemmings, lead vocals for 5 Seconds of Summer, even chimes in.
"SIMS" by Lauv: Lauv’s song “SIMS” will appear on his upcoming album ~how i’m feeling~. Which will drop in March 2020. SIMS, like many of his other songs, has a very upbeat and pop-like sound to it. Lauv released this song on October 4th, 2019.
"10,000 Hours" by Dan & Shay feat. Justin Bieber: This song is so unbelievably catchy. Dan & Shay released this song on October 4th, 2019 and it features Justin Bieber. It is one of those songs that you can’t help but sing along to. The song has a country and pop tone to it. The three voices blend so smoothly throughout the entire song. Definitely a song to serenade your S.O. with!
"I Think I’m Okay" by Machine Gun Kelly, YUNGBLUD and Travis Barker: These three artists put their heads together and created one of our favorite songs of the year. “I Think I’m Okay” is an extremely catchy song that brings awareness to the feeling of not being okay. The contrast between MGK and YUNGBLUD’s voices is incredible.
"Lights Up" by Harry Styles: Harry Styles released his newest single, “Lights Up” on October 11th, 2019 and had everyone shaking in their boots! We all knew HS2 was coming, but no one expected it to come out of the blue. This song dives into an indie pop vibe and really showcases Harry's voice. The song is very catchy and in a way pretty calming.
